With limited health insurance options and sky-high costs in state-regulated markets, psychedelic treatments are not accessible to thousands of people who need them most. Three industry thought leaders explored how new employer benefit programs, provider networks, and indigenous religious organizations can increase access to psychedelic medicine at the reMind Psychedelics Business Forum.

The session, titled “Expansion of Access: How to Make Psychedelics Treatments Affordable for All,” featured Joe Moore, co-founder of Psychedelics Today; Sherry Rais, co-founder of Enthea; and Veronica Perez, founder of Lightning Horse LLC.

The discussion covered everything from medical vs. nonmedical use, to newly emerging pricing models for psilocybin treatments, to public perceptions and the stigma surrounding psychedelics in general.

“The fact that a lot of these powerful and transformative medicines are also used recreationally does create a stigma. Often when I’m talking to payers, they bring up other common names of psilocybin and MDMA and ketamine, and they have this stigma in their mind that these are just supposed to be party drugs. So that’s a huge thing,” Rais said. Then we have people that actually experimented with these drugs and had bad experiences. What I’m finding more and more is that people are scared to lose control and that fear is very real.”
